The Oasis Food Bag Program is reaching disadvantaged school children in impoverished and low-income neighborhoods. Our current school of focus is Carter-Lawrence Elementary located in Davidson County. The majority of the students we serve live in Government Subsidized housing projects, with over 90% of them qualifying for the National Free and Reduced Lunch Program.

Oasis Church is a Partner Agency of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.  Second Harvest is a private, not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization with a mission to feed hungry people and work to solve hunger issues in our community.  Second Harvest works with a network of approximately 500 Partner Agencies like Oasis Church to distribute food to those in need throughout 46 counties in Middle and West Tennessee.  To learn more, visit secondharvestmidtn.org.

The Oasis Food Bag program has been awarded two sizable grants. Receiving the Walmart State Grant and Metro Enhancement Fund Grant has increased the frequency of deliveries and broadened our ability to meet the needs of these children who struggle with food insecurity.

It is Oasis’ goal not let any child go hungry, so we are providing every student at Carter-Lawrence Elementary School with a bag of nutritious and easy-to-prepare food to take home on weekends and school vacations. Typically, the food bags include cereal, peanut butter, canned vegetables and meats, pastas and various snacks aimed at providing meals for the whole family.

There are many ways to be involved in the Oasis Food Bag Program including helping to unload, pack and deliver the food bags. For more information, including upcoming volunteer dates, please contact Shanda via the information below, and follow us on Facebook or Twitter for our monthly packing and delivery time updates.
